Origin Ver. : OriginPro 2016 (64-bit)
Operating System: Win 10 (64-bit)

Is there any way to prevent the effect described in my title? I noticed that if I make longer ticks, the tick labels are (automatically) moved farther away from the axis, even though the ticks and the tick labels are on opposite sides of the axis. This behavior would make perfect sense if both my ticks and tick labels were on the outside of the plot. Longer ticks would then start to overlap with the tick labels. However, in my case I have tick labels on the inside of the plot. Making them longer should have no effect on the tick labels. Yet, the tick labels are automatically moved farther away from the axis nonetheless. This is frustrating because I'm trying to keep my plots as compact as possible.

Hi,

Thank you for pointing this out, we will improve this. Right now, you can double click on the tick labels. Under Tick Labels tab, then under Format subtab, expand Offset in % Point Size and adjust the tick label positions. Thank you.

Hi Alex,

You can also open Tools-Options dialog, go to Axis tab, change "To Inside Ticks"'s value to be a smaller one.

This way will affect all graphs, and James's method would modify a single one.

Or you may simply drag the tick labels and move it upwards, which in fact modifies the offset value without opening dialog.
