OriginPro 2021b (64-bit) SR2 9.8.5.212
Windows 10 21H1 x64

Greetings!

I try to fit my XYZ data with Plane using Nonlinear Fit.
Recently I noticed that if I choose Levenberg Marquardt iteration algorithm, the the Residual Plot option is missing in the menu:

Was this made by purpose or a bug?

Thank you.

Hi,

Orthogonal Distance Regression cannot support residual plots.

Thanks,
Amanda

What is the reason for this?
Can you add the residuals calculation and plotting for ODR option?

Hi,

In LM, there is only 1 residual data (Z), and we use contour plot: source X, source Y, residual Z.
In ODR, there is 3 residual data, X/Y/Z has its own one. We do not know what kind of plot type can be used to represent it yet.
That’s why we don’t output residual for ODR.

Thanks,
Amanda

That would be great to get Z residual in case of ODR.

Hi,

If Z residual plot, what’s the XY you want? Source X, source Y vs residual Z?

Thanks,
Amanda

Hi,

I have added your suggestion to JIRA (ORG-21616) to implement this in the future version.
Thank you for the suggestion.

Thanks,
