Origin Ver. and Service Release (Select Help-->About Origin):9.7.0.188
Operating System: windows 10

Hello! I am currently importing several files into a single datasheet. These files consist of data in five columns (X, Y, XErr, YErr, Points). I wish to plot the Y, XErr, YErr data against a single X column. Unfortunately, when I import all files, all columns are labeled as Y, and it is quite tedious to go 1-by-1 to change them to the correct settings.

Is there a quick way to import all data in each file to the correct column type? I tried to look in the "multiple ASCII file import" but I failed to locate the correct settings.

Thanks for your help!

Best,

Al

Hello,

By default, the 1st column should be X so not sure why all your data are imported as Y.

Did you change the default workbook in Origin?

Also in ascii import dialog, expand the Column node, there is a Column Designation node to set what each columns are after import.
We just published a video including showing this column designation.

Hello Snow,

That as a typo. I meant the first column is create as X but all others are create as Y.

Thanks for the video - I will try to see if I can adapt it to my problem.

The video shows how to set but didn't show what syntax to use.
U can go to
https://www.originlab.com/doc/Origin-Help/WksCol-SetDesignation

"Set Designation During Data Importing" part to see the letters for each designation.

Thanks, Snow
