Hi, I created a proteomics Volcano Plot with lots of data points using the Volcano Plot App. Now, I want to label certain data points with the corresponding protein names and highlight those points in a different color.
This was no problem and looked e.g. like this, when I'm editing the single data point:
However looking at the full graph, those labeled and highlighted data points are covered by other data points and barely visible. The label text is also partially hidden:
Is there any easy way to bring these labeled data points to the front since I can not move them in the object manager? I guess I could manually add those data points as additional dataplot to the layer and then move that to the front in the object manager but maybe there is a better option?

Hi Juppi,
I guess you have to gather those points and add them into graph again instead of creating special points.
How about: 1. Choose Data: Pick Data Points menu to pick data points from plot. 2. Click Done, it will gather the data's XY coordinates to a new book. Add new column and put labeling info. there. 3. Add the B column into graph as scatter points so it's on top of all existing plots. 4. Turn on label for the newly added plot and show the labeling info. and turn on leader line.
I will check with developer if we should improve the code so special points always above the parent plot, jira no: ORG-24888.
Thanks, Snow

Hi juppi,
Besides the solution Snow mentioned, would you mind to try if Annotation object is helpful?
i.e. Click the Annotation toolbar button (under the Text tool button), and then double click data points on graph. --> The added label should be on top of the plots. |
