Good morning,

I am currently working on a project where I have multiple plots that sometimes belong to different groups. That means I have a collection of plots now where some belong together.

I arranged them to recognize the pattern more easily but still I'd like to reduce the amount of opened graph windows.

When you combine different graphs into one, it splits them up into 2 x 2 or whatever you select. And on the top left corner the will be number buttons that help to select the right dataset.

Now while looking at those numbers I came up with the idea that it would be great if those were actually pages. So my question is, is there an option to have multiple graphs in one graph window, not split but full page basically, where you just click through the "graph pages" and you get the different plots that belong togehter?

I know I can use different project folders in the same project but since they also belong to several measurements I don't want to confuse anyone with the datasets. So it would be easier to stick to one project per measurement cycle and have the plots combined.

That way you could have multiple groups displayed on one page with stacked plots of all datasets that belong to one group as their first page and when you want to get more details and perhaps annotations and fits, you click through the pages per graph window.

So, does that option exist somewhere?

Thank you all and Best Regards

Do you mind sharing a project so we can better understand how your data is organized and could you show an example of what kind of effect you want to achieve?

Do u want multi-panel graphs or u want them all overlapping and depending on what you pick, corresponding group shows?

Thanks, Snow

Hello,

I created this ticket https://www.originlab.com/restricted/support/op/details.aspx?id=49875

to discuss this issue.

Hi,

Thank you for the answer. I would rather not share the project as most of it is unpublished at the moment.

But it's basically as I say. Imagine I create different structurally related compounds and I do all sorts of measurements for them. Different spectra that I have plotted as raw data and then perhaps additional plots with literature phases or annotations, fits, etc.

Imagine I have four compounds and three different measurement cycles. That alone would create twelve graphical windows that have to be arranged on one screen. I can of course name them and open them from the menu but if it's about comparing them it would be cool to have only four active windows open next to each other, so 2 x 2 on the screen and then I can just click through various 'pages' on each window to switch between datasets.

I had a case a while ago where four compounds looked identical until I subtracted their backgrounds and saw some differences. In this case, without every rearranging something you could just have the raw measurement files on page one, arranged in 2 x 2 and if you want to compare the background subtracted ones just click through the pages for each of them and you end up with the same 2 x 2 but now with different datasets.

I will add an image to this post. It's a little mockup of the idea. Just imagine the left and the right plot where two different plots but they looked very similar. I added those grey boxes with red numbers. If you press on "2" now, it will change the plot to say background subtracted. Click on "3" and it will display a fit where I added liteature data, etc. I don't have to move those windows anymore and I don't end up with 6 plots at the same time that I have to open and close each time I need to compare something. Also, things won't get lost as they can be added directly to the correct project. Say you want to test different fits or different phases.

Best Regards

Hello,

Origin's graph window is organized like this:
Page (white space)
Layer(s), a defined XY range.
Plots are in layer. U can open Plot Details dialog to see the structure.

There can be multiple layers in one graph, they can be mxn or 1x1 depending how u organize them.

If i understand it correctly, u want to show plots in active layer only in a multi-layer graph,

U can single left click on edge of graph to see the graph mini toolbar and choose Show Active Layer Only button.

Or right click those 1, 2, 3 layer icons on upper-left corner of graph and choose Show Active Layer Only context menu.

Then only plots in active layer shows.
U can click the 1,2,3 layer icon to change active layer. The pressed one is the active layer. Then plots on that layer shows.

Let me know if this is what you want.

We also have Object Manager window docked on right side of Origin workspace to easily turn on/off layer, plots in same graph window.

So your graph1 and 2 can be put into one graph window side by side and use object manager to turn/off plots and layers.

Thanks, Snow
