OriginPro 2022 (64-bit) SR1 9.9.0.225
Windows 7 Pro SP1 x64

Greetings!

What is the proper way to customize the default plot (line, scatter, etc.) templates in terms of font size, axis line thickness, layer scaling (mode and factor), etc.?

Thank you.

HI,

If you want to replace the default template with your customized one, you can right click on the graph window title bar and choose “Save Template”, and then click “Yes” to overwrite the default template.

If this is not what you want, please tell me what you want in details.

Thanks,
Amanda

Dear Amanda,

I will try doing this.
How do I restore the default templates shipped with Origin installation back?

How do I change the global settings (font, thickness) for all the plot templates at once?

Thank you.

Hi Andrey,

Since you want customize default setting of multiple built-in templates, i would suggest you change system graph theme which will be applied to all built-in 2d graph template by default.
https://www.originlab.com/doc/Origin-Help/ThemeRef-System

When saving your own graph theme, many unnecessary properties will be saved. To avoid this, i would suggest you open Theme Organizer dialog F7, on Graph tab, select multiple themes that apply to u, right click to combine and then edit it.

E.g. for your case,
1. Ctrl select "Layer No Element Scaling" and "Times New Roman Font" themes
2. Right click and choose Combine. U can also double click the combined theme to give it a better name.
3. Right click the combined theme and choose Edit.
4. Right click Global node and choose Add > Global Line Width, this will set axis line thickness. Set to the value u want.
5. Right click Global node and choose Add > Size. This will set Font Size.
6. U can also remove Face (which means font) or modify it.
7. The "Layer No Element Scaling" actually means don't change font and line size when rescaling layers" so what you set will be what will be used.
8. Save this and then right click it and choose Set as System Theme.

Then no matter line, scatter, etc. such theme will be applied.

System graph theme will not be applied to 3d graph templates (no matter built-in or user-defined.
As to 2d user-defined template, when u save graph template, in the dialog, there is a checkbox "Allow system theme & system increment Lists to Override". By default it's not checked. So system theme will not be applied to them.

So if u have saved some user-defined graph template for line, scatter etc. with exact same name as built-in template, u may want to remove them so it will use built-in template and then get system theme applied. E.g. with workbook acticve,
Choose Plot: Template Library.
Only Keep User checked
Click Management mode (the Gear icon)
Check the user-defined templates u want to delete and click Delete button.

Thanks, Snow
