OriginPro 2022b (64-bit) SR1 9.9.5.167
Windows 7 Pro SP1 x64

Greetings!

Please the following project:
https://my.originlab.com/ftp/forum_and_kbase/Images/Graph%20Color%20Indexing%20Fails.opju

In my environment, changing something in either sheet A or sheet B immediately breaks the graph.

Do you reproduce the issue?

Thank you.

Hi Andrey,
I can see same issue. Currently, recalculate for join worksheet does not keep status of set as categorical, so index color of graph is fail. We will check and fix it with ORG-24969-P2.

Thanks
Cecilia

Hi Andrey,

It is because Join Worksheets by Column will copy source column's format into output columns.

Specific to your sample project, if you first set col(E) in both sheet "A" and "B" as categorical,
and then Change Parameters again, the graph should keep well.

Is it good enough for you?

Hi AKazak,

Do you think the workaround is good enough?

The workaround works very fine.

What would Join Worksheets by Column do if the column in Set as Categorical on one sheet, but Set as not Categorical on another sheet?

I am not sure if I understand your question correctly.

The tool will copy columns one by one in each sheet, so they are independent and will not affect each other.

i.e. in your case, in output sheet one col will be categorical and the other will be not, just same as source.

If it happens to be used as the matched column and turn on merge as one option, for now we will adopt the property from 1st sheet (w1).

Hi,

Origin 2023 is available!

Following issue you reported in this post has been fixed in Origin 2023:
Want to keep Categorical Status when there is recalculate (ORG-24969).

Right now, Origin can keep categorical status when there is recalculate for Join worksheet.
Please try it in Origin 2023.

We are looking for your feedback! Any suggestion will be appreciated!

Thanks,
Amanda
