Origin Ver. and Service Release Origin 2016, SR2
Operating System:Windows 10

I am trying to draw vertical and horizontal lines on a graph. I have done this many times before without problem. But on the graph shown below, whenever I enter a value in the box, it gets changed to something else. It must have something to do with how the layers are linked that I do not understand.

I am trying to add a vertical line on graph4 - Graph0910 - Copy4 at 127 on the lower axis (minutes) which is 20229 * 10^-4 on the axis above. When I enter 127 in the dialog box, it changes to 0.79798 and shows up on the graph as 0.00501. If I enter 2.02 for the upper axis, it changes to 2.2E-11. If I enter 20229 it changes to 9.02E-7. I cannot figure out what is going on but I assume it has something to do with the way the axes are linked or scaled. If I get this straightened out, I will want to do the same with a horizontal line.

File was too big to send. Should be available to share in tech@originlab.com.

Thanks for your help.

Hello,

Just wondering if it's because you didn't have correct layer activated in graph?
For multi-layer graph, u can click the layer number icon on upper-left corner of graph, e.g. 1, 2, 3, 4 to make sure the correct layer is activated (pressed) since Add straight line is based on the scale of that layer.

Also with graph window active, could you choose File: Save Window as to save the graph window as oggu file and share since it will be much smaller than the whole project file.

Another question is if the graph is zoomed in or scaled in. We had some issues with that with add straight line but it's fixed in latest version. So please consider upgrading to latest version.

Thanks, Snow

Yes. I checked and I did have the correct layer activated.

Ok. Thanks. I did upload this. JWRFiletoForum

Another question is if the graph is zoomed in or scaled in.

I think I scaled in. I do not know about "zoomed in" and I have not used it (at least intentionally).

We had some issues with that with add straight line but it's fixed in latest version. So please consider upgrading to latest version.

What is the academic cost for an upgrade. Is it a one-time fee or a subscription (yearly)? I think my university (Northwestern) is in the process of getting a site license. If that happens, it will likely be cheaper (though not free).

I think I may have solved the problem though, perhaps, not the optimal way. I was scaling the axis using "divide by" in the axis dialog menu. If I scale the data in the worksheet instead, the vertical line is position correctly. I hope this does not mess something else up. Is there a better way?
Thanks for your help.

Thanks, Snow

Thanks for sending the opju. Now I see why.

If you double click on tick labels of the bottom axis, e.g. 120. U will be sent to Tick Labels tab of axis dialog.

You have set Divide by Factor to 159.151194. Which means those -60, 0, 60, ... are not real axis range. E.g. 120 actually means 120*159.151194.

In the addline dialog, we also show the real axis scale e.g. [-10000, 55000] so if u really want a line at 127, u should enter the value of 20212 or so.

There are multiple ways to add straight line in Origin.
In Origin 2023 we released, u can add reference line which will take care of the divide by factor so u don't need to do the calculation.

Hello,

Just FYI.

We improved this area in recently released Origin 2023b so that the divide by factor will be considered when adding line to graph.

Thanks, Snow
