Hello,

I was wondering if somebody might be able to help me interpret a residual plot for a 2D Gaussian fit, I'm quite new to data analysis. It was my understanding that residual plots can tell you the difference between the observed response and the fitted response and could tell you if your regression model fits your data, dependant on your pattern of data, via a scatter graph.

After fitting a 2D gaussian I have received this graph, however, don't exactly understand what it's displaying.

Any help is greatly appreciated,

Many thanks

The plot highlights areas where the original data is significantly above (red) or below (blue) the fitted values.
