I was wondering if somebody might be able to help me interpret a residual plot for a 2D Gaussian fit, I'm quite new to data analysis. It was my understanding that residual plots can tell you the difference between the observed response and the fitted response and could tell you if your regression model fits your data, dependant on your pattern of data, via a scatter graph.
After fitting a 2D gaussian I have received this graph, however, don't exactly understand what it's displaying.
Yes, you can first find the residual data for the contour lines. Then add the data to the residual plot as a scatter plot. Then you need to color the points indicating whether the residual value is above or below 0. Please refer to the attached video.
