Dear all,
I'd like to know if it was possible to automate the following successive treatments :
1. Import single ASCII (-> file with 10350 lines except headers and 31 rows)
2. Set col(B) as X and plot col(B) vs col (E)
3. Peaks analyzer with an already saved theme (-> 330 peaks integration, interested in area and FWHM)
4. Statistics (-> area & FWHM mean and std dev values)

Ideally I imagine to manually choose one ASCII file (by File->import). And with one click, I pick the stats in a tab . If task#2 is a concern, I could manually process the ASCII file to remove the useless col(A). If only tasks 3 and 4 can be automated, I still save time. So I take what is possible. FYI I have hundreds of ASCII file, one is attached in case of.

Thanks for you help

Hello Nico,

You can do this with Analysis Templates.

1. Import your ASCII data. Do whatever data formatting you need.
2. Set colB as X and plot ColE
3. Run your Peak Analyzer process
4. Run Statistics on Columns on the FWHM columns from PA results to calculate the means and std dev.
5. Right-click the sheet tabs to add the graph as a sheet.
6. Make sure all your recalculation locks are set to: Recalculate Mode:Auto.
7. File>Save Workbook As Analysis Template.

Now you can open this template then drag & drop your data into it.
You can also use this template in Batch Processing to quickly process multiple datasets.

Hello ChaoC,

Great, this is exactly what I need.

As a side question, the col(B) is time (hh:mm:ss), ranging from 00:00:00 to 23:59:59. Fow few datasets, the plot col (B) vs. col (E) goes wrong if there is a day change during the data collection.

So far, I skipped the problem by a manual change of the col(B) values by another dataset that do not show a day change. But do you think that I could fix this problem by choosing the right label format for the X axis ? I tried some of them, with no success. Should I open a new post for that ?

Hi Nico,

I have good news and bad news. The good news is that this issue is addressed with the "Fix Time Wrap Around" feature. For more information on it, please visit this link: https://my.originlab.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=48320

The bad news is that this feature was introduced with Origin 2021, and it appears you are using Origin 2017.

For information on upgrading, visit: https://www.originlab.com/index.aspx?go=Purchase/PricingAndOrdering

Let me know if I can help you with the upgrade process.

Best,

Nicholas G.

Hi,
Thanks for the tip. But upgrading Origin is unfortunately not planned yet in my lab. Maybe in a couple of years
