Origin Version (Select Help-->About Origin): 7.5SR6 Operating System: WinXp
Hi everyone,
i encountered some problems using the eps export option in Origin. I have data curves with 1024 points per curve of which i usually use overlays of ca. 30 curves. With several measurements in one graph that easily comes to more then 100.000 points per graph and with an mutiple layer overview of my results we are at 500.000 datapoints minimum.
Unforetunately i need such overview plots for my publications. Nobody wants to see 10 single graphs on 10 different pages. And since printing quality is also an issue for publications, bitmap images aren't exactly what i look for.
As for the eps export, i manages to make a 21MB eps from a 14MB origin file, but for what i know the eps export has two major drawbacks. First, it export all datapoints incuding the ones that are overlaid by some others and therfore "invisible" (which can be adjusted e.g. in Adobe Illustator - so i would be possible to improve the eox export in that sense). Second, it exports not the datapoints as such, but the symbols drawn. E.g. it exports two lines with starting points and distances for each cross. But there is the possibility to define such symbols once and then just export the datapoints into the eps. This is done e.g. by gnuplot.
So there are several ways to mightily improve the eps export. My question whould be if this is somehow possible in Origin (wihtout me noticing it), or maybe planned for the future, or if somehow knows a workaround to get good quality eps exports from origin graphs.
thanks a lot for your feedback.

Hi rascree,
Have you tried to change the Raster Object Handling option to "Combine All Bitmaps" rather than "Individual Bitmaps" in the EPS Export options? In my test, it reduced the file size. Also, have you tried to make a layout page, then export it as an eps? These might show some effects on the image file.

Hi Hideo,
thanks for your answer.
let me clarify one thing first. The reason why i use eps is, that i don't want to have bitmaps, but scalable vector graphics. Graphs get resized constantly and i need to do this without quality loss, thats why i wanted to have eps and not tif, jpg, pgn or bmp. Thats also why changing the bitmap settings doesn't change anything. I checked it, and it produces the same file with exaclty the same size.
As for the layout page, it's also the same. It just layout the page very nicely (by the way - without quality loss by scaling, so vector objects work good within origin), but the export doesn't change a bit.
Please guys, don't tell be Origin is beaten by Gnuplot!! Origin has to be better than such an old open source project....
