Origin Version (Select Help-->About Origin): 7.5
Operating System: WinXP

Suppose I have a Origin plot in a word document.
It's OLE embeded object, which can be edited by double clicking on it.
After open it in this way, I do some change for the plot,
e.g. change the scale of Y-axis. Then clost it and return to
Word document.

Now, how could I undo this change in Word? It seems Word does
not remember this operation in the OLE embeded object.

Moreover, if I find something wrong in Origin before I close the
embeded plot, how can I undo this operation within Origin?
(In many cases, I cannot remember the parameters after I change it)
The undo function in Origin is very limited I think.

In my experience,
both methods above don't work, I have to be very careful before
making any change for the embeded Origin plot.
(I have to make a copy of my Word document before change the plot contents)

It would be very nice if there is a way to revert the embeded plot
to its original state.

Could anybody give some suggestion on that?

Thanks!

Deanna

I am very sorry that reverting your graph seems impossible now. For most software including Origin, restoring a file after many times of changing and saving is very difficult, and usually undoing is only possible before closing the application.

I understand that the undo in Origin needs improving, and our developers are working on it. For now, there is something you can try to compensate the deficiency.

1. Use the back up OPJ. If you feel unsatisfied with the changes you made before last time you save the project, you can undo the changes by replacing the OPJ with a back up OPJ, as described in our knowledge base:
http://www.originlab.com/www/support/resultstech.aspx?ID=1000&language=English
However, if the graph in your document is not pasted as a link, the back up OPJ would not be used.

2. Set up the auto-saving as Mr. Mike Buess suggests in this post:
http://www.originlab.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4922.
Then for every 60 seconds, the OPJ will be automatically saved.

If you want to change the embedded graph to a link, please follow this procedure:
1) Double-click on the embedded graph.
2) Save it as an independent Origin object on your hard disk.
3) Right click on the graph and choose the “Copy Page”.
4) Switch back to the word document; delete the embedded graph, and in the original position, paste link. (From the menu of Word, choose Edit: Paste Special. And then choose “Paste link” and “Origin Graph Object”.)
Then you can edit the OPJ with Origin. After proper changes, update the link in Word by right-clicking on the graph and choosing “update link”.
