Origin Version (v7.5885): Operating System:WinXP
Hi, My worksheet is as follows.
A(X) B(Y) C(Y) 1. 1. 2. 2. 2. 4.
I would like to make 2 curves. 1st: x-axis=A(X), y-axis=B(Y) 2nd: x-axis=C(Y), y-axis=B(Y)
But I could not add 2nd curve after making 1st curve in the Plot Setup. This reason may be concerned with plot Designation but I do not understand.
Could you tell me what is reason?
Best regards,

Hi:
In Origin, each worksheet column is tagged with a Plot Designation that tells Origin how to treat the data when plotting or performing analyses. Plot Designations are X, Y, Z, X Error (bar), etc. In your case, you should organize your data like:
A(x1) B(y1) C(x2) D(y2) 1...... 1...... 2...... 1 2...... 2...... 4...... 2
Just add a column D and copy column B to column D, then set column C as X column (right click the column and choose "Set As --> X"). And then highlight the entire worksheet and plot the curves.
Any more information about Plot Designation, please read the following section:
The Worksheet>Worksheet Columns (Data Sets)>Understanding Column Associations in the Worksheet
of Origin Help file

The Plot Setup dialog is designed to plot data regardless of what the plot designation may be for a particular column.
The problem you are exoeriencing is a limitation. Specifically, you cannot plot a dataset more than once as a particular designation in a single graph layer. In your example, you tried to plot B as a Y column twice.
A solution that does not require a change in your worksheet is to use a two layer plot template such as Vertical Two Panel, Horizontal Two Panel or Double-Y.
For example, select Plot : Panel : Vertical Two Panel from the menu. (Layer1 should be active in the bottom pane.) Check B as your Y and A as your X and click Add. Select Layer2 in the bottom pane. Check B as your Y and C as your X and click Add. Click OK.
You can re-arrange this graph to look like one layer by selecting : Edit : Add & Arrange Layers Choosing 1 row by 1 column Accept default spacing
The Double-Y template does something similar with the added advantage that the X axes are linked.
