Origin Version (Select Help-->About Origin): Pro 7.5
Operating System: Windows

Hi!

I am trying to plot up 2 equations in 3D wire surface. I am able to set the individual equation values in the matrix, but how do I plot two equations in one 3D graph? Thanks a bunch.

You can do this with the following steps:

1> Create two matrixes with your two equations
2> Plot the 3D graph with first matrix
3> right-click the layer number in the top-left corner of the graph, and select Layer Contents to open the dialog.
4> In the Layer Contents dialog, select the name of the sencond matrix in the left panel and click => button in the middle to add it to the layer. Click OK.
5> To make the two equations display in different style, you can double click on the curve to change the plot style as you like.

Thank you! That was so helpful!

But now, how do I create a double z-axis so that both equations are properly shown on the 3D graph. Is there a way I can do it so that it is plotted on the other side from the first matrix? Thank you for all of your help, I am really new to this software.

Origin now does not support a double-Z axis 3D graph.

However, you can create a "mimic" double-Z graph by:

1> Plot two 3D graphs seperately from the two matrixes, Note that you can only go on with the following steps as the two matrixes has same XY dimensions, i.e. the axis for X,Y in the two graphs are same.

2> select Edit: Merge all Graph Windows from the main menu. (Make sure there are only the two graphs in current project folder)

3> Then an attention dialog pops up, select Yes. Another dialog for Total number of layers pops up, set both the number of rows and columns as 1 and click Ok. Use the default value for the next dialog and click OK.

4> Now a new graph with two layers has been created. Select the second layer by clicking the Layer No.2. Then double-click the curve to open the Plot Details dialog. In right panel of the dialog, selet tab Planes and set all the Color as None. In the left panel, expand the node for Layer2, there will a sub-node named as the matix name, say Matrix1, select it. Go to tab Wire Frame in the right panel and set the Grid Color as Single Orange,(maybe any other color).

5> With Layer2 is still active, double-click Z axis to open the Axis Details dialog. In tab Scale, switch the values of From and To (e.g. if those are initially "From -2 To 2", you should change it to "From 2 To -2"). Go to tab Title & Format and set Color of Axis & Ticks as Orange accordingly. Click OK.

6> Select and move the Z label for the second layer slightly away from that of the first layer.

7> Active the first layer and change the color of Axis & Ticks according to the plot color as step 5.

Try this, and if there is any other problem, please feel free to post here.
