Origin Version (Select Help-->About Origin): Origin Pro 8 Evaluation
Operating System:Windows XP

When using the 2 way repeated measures design, I get an error message re: lack of balanced design and that there should be one and only one value per cell. I use the indexed version and my data are in 4 columns, one column for subjects (1-11), one column for the first indep var codes (2 levels), one column for the 2nd indep var codes (2 levels), and one column for the dep var values. These are all numerical values with no missing values. What am I doing wrong?

Hi egoshorn,

Firstly, for now Origin8 only supports repeated measures ANOVA on balanced design data.

The term "balanced design" means that observations should be the same for each combination of levels (or cells).

A sample balanced design data would be following:

Subject	Factor1	Factor2	Data
1	aa	cc	8.5
1	aa	dd	11
2	aa	cc	8.5
2	aa	dd	10.5
3	aa	cc	9.5
3	aa	dd	12
1	bb	cc	9
1	bb	dd	12.5
2	bb	cc	9
2	bb	dd	11.5
3	bb	cc	10
3	bb	dd	13


As you can see Factor1 and Factor2 both have 2 levels, and thus the combination of levels is 4:
aa*cc, aa*dd, bb*cc, bb*dd.

At the same time, you can see all these 4 combinations have 1 (the same)observation for each subject.

Therefore, it is a balanced design data.

Therefore, would you mind to check your data?

Or you can paste the data here so that we can take a look if the data is balanced design?

I see what you mean. That was a very clear explanation. I will try changing my data file to the format you illustrated and run it again.

This is a balanced design, so now you just have to make the correct argument assignments. With no columns selected in the sheet, open the 2Way Repeated Measures ANOVA function.
Assign :
fmt as Factor A
snr as Factor B
PCGrau as Data
subj as Subject
by using the right arrow buttons next to each input dataset.
