Origin Version (Select Help-->About Origin): 8.0724 Operating System: WinXP
First of all, hello everyone, this is my first topic here, hope I can count on your help. Excuse me for any spellin/related mistakes, I'm not a native speaker
Let's get to the point. I need to count the area limited by a function. I tried using the "integ2" command, following what I read in the help file. I've got a series of data and I've created a chart and aproximated the data with a polynominal (shown on the Excel screen print). I insert that data (formula) into the Matrix (set vaulues - ctrl+c: -6E+08x6 + 3E+06x5 + 998124x4 + 1732,1x3 - 436,45x2 - 24,541x + 16,053) and integrate. I get integration value "1300,3" for the polynominal. And the question is - is that correct? Seems quite good, but does the software integrate the "whole" area (limited by the oX axis (y=0)) or (preferably) the area limited by the polynominal and y=ax+b which connects two extreme points? If not, how do I do that?

I hope I explained it properly ;)
thanks in advance

Hi Mike,
I think you can refer to the Algorithm part of the help file of the Integ2 X-Function (also available here). If you are still not clear with it, please let us know.

Ok, so I think that my integration is made for an area from the polynominal to the y=0 axis ("This X-Function computes the volume between the plane Z=0 and the matrix surface.")
but how do I make it count the way I described it in the first post? Maybe I should insert the data(points shown on the attached chart) directly to Origin instead of taking the polynominal from Excel?
thanks for your help so far |

Ok, I managed to overcome my problems ;) I inserted the data directly to OriginLab and integrated it. Sorry about all the fuss, I'm too impatient to thoroughly read help files ;) which helped me solve the issue
cheers! |
