Origin Version 6 and 8
Operating System: XP

Hi,

I have a bunch of data files with the same structure. I would like to import certain columns from these data files into only one worksheet. To distinguish between the different data files the columns should be name as the original data file name + a additional string for distinguish between the columns originated from the same file. Does anybody know how I can do this, because importing the files separately and the copy the columns into a new file is so time consuming.

Thanks a lot,

cheers,
jens

Hi, Jens

You can use Import Wizard tool
1. Select File: Import: Import Wizard to open Import Wizard tool
2. In Source Page, select desired files and select Start New Columns in the Import Mode drop down list, the last item
3. In the second page, check file name to column comments check box
4. Go to Data Selection page, enter desired column index and click Apply button

Hi,

but I have still the problem that I can't choose only certain columns. lets say I want to take only the 3th 6th an 12th column and leave the other one. in the import wizard /data selection page I can only chose read column form here to here but I can't leave out chertain columns in the chosen column range. How can I do this? I don't want to delete all the unwanted columns by hand.

thank,

jens
