Origin Ver. and Service Release (Select Help-->About Origin): 7.5 SR4
Operating System: XP

Hi,

I am having some trouble trying to import header variables from ascii files. The headers are something like this:

Title - MONTH YEAR - Config:ABC123
01
01
(Comment Line)
(Comment Line)
1.5 2.0 3.0 8.0 21.0
21.0 0.0 0.0 0.59 1.0
01

The variables are space-separated. In the header variables dialog, if I select tab as delimiter the entire line will be listed as a variable (L1V1, L2V2 and so on). However, if I try to select space as a delimiter, Origin will find around 400-500 variables per line, most of which are empty. The file has spaces after the last value, but I expected Origin would be able to deal with that. Any help?

Im not sure why the forum didnt display it correctly, but in fact there are a number of spaces between the numbers, i.e.

1.5___2.0___3.0___8.0___21.0

It really seems like there is one variable for each space, plus one variable for text. Perhaps there are blank spaces at the end of the line, and therefore a bunch of empty variables are added.

Help is appreciated!

Sorry, there is no feature to treat multiple spaces or tabs as a single delimiter. Origin 8 did add improved behavior for handling such delimiters for data but not for header variables. I have submitted a Tracker item for this ability to be added for header variables. The Tracker item is #13672.
