In Plot Details at the dataplot level on the XY Faces tab, select Fill Color = None.

this does not help, it only makes the area transparent!

Have you tried the 2D Waterfall plot available from the Plot : Multi-Curve : Waterfall menu?

If you go to the Line tab in Plot details of this graph type, you can uncheck the 'Fill Area Under Curve' box.
The graph still appears as if the area under the curve is filling with White, but we are removing hidden lines by default. This control can be found at the Layer level on the Waterfall tab.

Clicking a blank region in the graph gets sizing handles for the apparent 3D space. A second click gets perspective handles.
