Response to Dashed Lines Not VisibleTo whom it may concern:
You write:
*I have a problem either with Origin 4.0 or Origin 3.5. When plotting data with
*dashed line, the full screen option does not show this curve, neither dotted
*one, only th full line. Either pasting into another application (e.g. MS - WORD)
*looks similar - everything appears there, but dotted lines/curves not.
It is possible that the dotted or dashed lines are not visible because of a peculiarity with the video driver. Try changing the thickness of the dotted or dashed line(s) to see if they show up. Do they? If they do, it is the video driver deciding that your dotted or dashed line is not significant and therefore will not be displayed.
If this does not seem to correct the problem, you might want to try a small alteration to the ORIGIN.INI file. To do so, first open your Windows Explorer and find your Origin 3.5 or Origin 4.0 folder (whichever one you wish to work with). Open the INI file with a text editor of some sort. This includes Notepad, WordPad, or ever Word. Scroll down until you get to the section that starts with [Dash]. The fourt line below that is the word Software and it is set to a number (either 1 or 0). Try setting Software to the other number, saving the ORIGIN.INI file and then creating a graph with a dotted or dashed line. If changing the thickness did not help, does this?
If neither of these things seems to correct the problem it may be a printer driver problem. In this case what you would want to do is change your printer driver to something other than what you are currently using (if possible). I include a prepared statement about printer drivers for you to read:
Printer driver conflict
If you use a PostScript (PS) printer, install the Apple LaserWriter driver and connect it to your printer. There are known problems with a few PS drivers (Lexmark and Pacific Data for example). The Apple driver is quite stable. If you use a non-PostScript printer you can connect the above Apple Laserwriter to print to a FILE for testing. In both cases, after adding the printer driver, set the new printer as the default and try the activity that has been crashing in Origin. If there is no problem with this activity after doing this then you will need to get a newer driver from the printer manufacturer or Microsoft, or use a driver that is compatible with your printer (several printers have emulators or support earlier versions of printer-specific languages - PCL4 vs PCL5 for example).
You also had a question regarding Linking:
*And another problem: Option "paste special" should build a link into some *client (again, MS WORD). However, no link is built - confirmation of this *fact is, that LINK option within MS WORD menu remains inactive, as well as *"Update client" within Origin menu. Any suggestion?
I am wondering whether you are trying to establish a link with a project that has not been saved. In order to establish a link with a graph the project must be saved first. Try saving the project and then reopening it. Then copy the graph window and try paste linking it. If this does not work, then it would most likely be a good idea to contact Microcal's technical support staff.
