I have an excel workbook open in Origin. R1 contains column titles.
The legend text does not show the text except as small lines or blocks
that are two small to read. I tried various formatting changes in Legend
Editing Window with no success. Any ideas would be welcome!

Thanks in advance,

Micheal

Response to Excel workbook column title text format problem in legend

In an effort to reproduce your problem I created some data in an Excel workbook inside of Origin. The basic setup is as follows:

Workbook Setup col A col B
row 1 ONE TWO
row 2 1 40
row 3 2 50
row 4 3 60

I then went to Plot: Line+Symbol which brought up the 'Select Data For Plotting' interface. I selected col A by highlighting it with my mouse and then clicked on the 'X' button on 'Select Data For Plotting'. Similarly, I then selected col B and clicked the 'Y' button. The data plotted out correctly, but I did not see any legend present. To get the legend to come up, I then made the graph active by clicking on it. I then right-clicked inside the axes and selected New Legend. The legend that came up was fine. It showed the symbol for a Line + Symbol plot and the word "TWO" next to it (it was easily readible).I failed to see any "small lines or blocks that are too small to read."

It would be a good idea if you expanded on your problem. Perhaps you could email me at the address provided below for further assistance? It would be helpful if in the email you would provide a step-by-step explanation of how you arrive at the problem so that I can try and reproduce it. In the explanation you should also include any system information that you can gather (such things as your operating system (windows 95 or NT), your default printer driver, you video card and video driver, and the font that you are using in the legend). Perhaps the printer driver you are using can not handle such a font and is substituting another one?. Once you have provided this
information it should be easier to determine the cause of your problem.

Please include your serial number with your correspondence.

Sincerely,

Ryan,
This works fine if you open your data as an Excel workbook.
But if you if you choose to open from Excel as an Origin worksheet as a legend
the titles from the default column names assigned A, B, ... are taken.
What can you do to change the titles to the first row? I could not figure out.

Reinhard
