Our problem is as follows: we are using microcal's origin 5.0 demo version and found the maximum number of columns advertised as 425, which works well in a worksheet as long as you do not import any ASCII Data. When we try to import ASCII data with 400 columns exactly, even in a worksheet which 400 columns, we get a message saying "data may have too many columns" and only 254 of the 400 columns are imported. How can we import the full data set?

There is a know limitation of the File: Import ASCII routine. Only 254 columns can be imported directly into the worksheet. There is a workaround. Create a new matrix: File: New Matrix. While the matrix is the active window select File: Import ASCII. This will import up to 425 columns into the matrix. Next select Edit: Convert to Worksheet: Direct. This will move the data from the matrix window to a new worksheet with all of your data.
