 Differentiation-where are the data?!

Hi,
I use Origin 4.10 32bit (W95). After differentiation, Origin makes a new plot
from the calculated differences. It should put the calc. data in the original
worksheet in a column called originaldata' . The data are missing! Although
by clicking on the graph of the derivative, it indicates the presence of these
in the orig worksheet, they are somehow hidden or what (?).
Also I can locate the column among the available ones (e.g when plotting a new
graph). I can put these differentials in any graph, just the values are not
there.In version 3.51 this function worked well, the differentials were next
to
the original data. Any idea, how could I see them in the worksheet? Maybe
there
is an option to change somewhere I could not find? Or is this a real bug :-?

Response to Differentiation-where are the data?!

Steve,

When performing an Analysis:Calculus ifferentiate, the dataset for
the plot of the derivative can be made to appear in the original
worksheet by doing the following:

1) Perform the Analysis:Calculus ifferentiate.
2) Make the graph window (with the derivative plotted on it) the active
window.
3) Double-click on the plot line. This brings up the Plot Details dialog box
for the derivative plot.
4) Click the Worksheet Button on the Plot Details dialog box.
5) Go to the original worksheet and notice that the dataset appears as the
datasetname'(Y). In my case, since the differentiation was performed on
column B(Y) of my original worksheet, the derivative was named B'(Y).

Furthermore, if you happen to perform an Analysis:Calculus:Integrate and want
the dataset for that, you would need to do the following:

1) Perform the analysis.
2) Go to Window:Script Window to bring up the Script Window.
3) Click inside the Script Window to get a cursor.
4) Type in the following:

copy _integ_area data1;
edit data1;

where data1 is the original worksheet's name (which might be different in
your case).

Highlight this and hit enter. This will bring up the your original worksheet
with the integration dataset appended as the last column. One thing to note
is that this column is not named, but at least it's there!

thanks for the help, BUT:

Of course I did it ten times before, BUT as I wrote in the original mail,
the data ARE simply NOT THERE. When I click on the worksheet button -
point 4) of your response - it simply brings up the original worksheet,
where the differentiated data should be, but they are invisible... There are
only two columns, the original x and y...
However, I can plot new graph windows with these "non-existing" data, as
they are listed as an existing column among the available data:
originalworksheet_y'
Even if I save the project, then open it again, I can use these data, but
cannot see them in workshet form.
/with Origin 3.51 it worked well, I have problems with 4.10 32 bit./

Response to Again: Differentiation

I have again tried to reproduce the problem that you state. I have even tried it in Origin 4.1 32 bit, Origin 4.1 32 bit with Patch 2, and Origin 5.0 release. Each and every time that I double-click on the derivative plot and then on the Worksheet button I am taken directly to the original worksheet. When I look at the original worksheet I always see that the derivative's dataset is appended to the worksheet properly and the data is visible. In your case do you see that a column is added, but the data is not visible? Or does the column just not get added at all? Please let me know.

Since this is clearly a technical issue and not a Forum question, I would suggest that you respond to this by emailing us at Technical Services. Please include your serial number and specific instructions as to how to reproduce your problem, including any files you deem pertinent. To send a file, either attach it to the email or place them on our FTP site.

If your FTP access is through some sort of FTP software, you will need to go to microcal.com, login as anonymous, and use your email address as your password. Once there, place the file(s) in our Incoming directory. If you have Netscape, you can go to our FTP site and place the file(s) in our Incoming directory without having to login. Remember to include the file name in your email response so that we will know what we are looking for!
