Origin Ver. and Service Release (Select Help-->About Origin): Origin 8.1 SR1 v 8.1.13.88 Operating System: Windows 7
Dear all,
Yesterday, in my Origin 8.1, literally half the functions suddenly stopped working. Instead of the required result, the status bar just says "for help, press F1". As of now, these functions have not yet decided to magically spring to life, hence my post. For example, I'll give a short selection of the many things that don't work any more: - Setting matrix dimensions - Exporting graphs - Pressing F1 when the status bar says "For help, press F1"
Not everything broke. For instance, I can still enter data, load files, and make graphs.
I tried restarting Origin, restarting my computer, starting a new file, and resetting all options, but the problem persists. I have no idea what is causing this problem.
Any assistance would be much appreciated! |

It sounds like Origin is failing to compile all its functions. When you start Origin, open Code Builder and choose Tools : Rebuild All. If you see any errors, then you have to: Exit Origin Find any OCTEMP folders and delete them Restart Origin and check Code Builder again. If still problems then re-install Origin. |

Hi,
If you find errors in Code Builder, then it is some issue with OC files, and then Greg's suggestion is to delete OCTEMP.
Then to delete OCTEMP do the following: 1> Go to script window (menu: Window->Script Window) and then type: system.path.appdata$= and press Enter 2> Copy path location and close Origin 3> Navigate to that path and delete the OCTEMP subfolder 4> Restart Origin
If this does not fix it, please contact tech support with the information you have from Code Builder error message etc.

I found the OCTEMP subfolder and deleted it, but the problem persists. Strange! I'll let the IT folks here re-install it, so I trust that'll solve the problem. You seem familiar with this issue, is it that common?
Anyway, thanks for the quick replies! |

Update: I also tried deleting OrgApp.ini, and this solved the problem, so reinstalling wasn't necessary after all. Thanks for the help! |
