Dear all,

I make ternary graphs and I'd like to replace the actual square symbols by the corresponding labels of the col(A).

If I copy/paste the value of the (A) col in the (I) col, this works. But anyone can say me how I could make the col(A) value available in the Label form choicebox ? Thanks for helping

Hi Nico,

Only columns to the right of the plotted data are shown in that drop-down, in 8.5.0SR0. In the upcoming 8.5.1 release we have removed that restriction. For now you need to move your label column to the right of the data that is plotted.

Hi Nico,

Is it possible to combine all of your Z values into a single column? When I do this, I get Col(A) as a choice in the dropdown. For some reason, when you treat each as a separate dataset, Origin assumes that the label will be to the right of the data columns. To get different symbol types for each point, you do not need to make each a separate dataset, you can specify a column index to do so. See attached image.

That said, the easiest thing might be to simply move your labels.

Regards,
Vince

Hi Nico,
If you want to keep your worksheet structure, here is another way you can do it.

On Label tab, you can set Label From as Custom.
Then set Format String as:
%(col(A)[i]$)

Then it will add matching Label from col(A) into the graph.

But if you really wants to replace the symbol with the label. I am thinking you can go to Symbols tab in Plot Details dialog. Set the symbol size to be 0.
Then on Labels tab, set Position to be Center with no X offset and Y offset.

Thanks, Snow Li

Dear all,

As keeping the worksheet structure is the easiest, the snowli solution is the most appropriate. Creating a label index as vincenth proposal will help me for another job.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Dear all,

I come again because the label tab has disappeared ! You'll find a screenshot where I do the same example of my the last post (25 Feb) and the label tab is not here...
The only change compared to last Feb is that I've moved to the SR4 version (v8.0951)

Thanks for your help !

Nicolas

Hi Nico,

"SR4 version (v8.0951)" means Origin 8.0 SR4. Origin 8.0 doesn't have the feature of the "Label" tab in the Plot Details dialog box. It's a new feature, and in Origin 8.0 you need to adopt the older version's way (i.e., make a Label designated worksheet column, and include it in your plot together).
