Origin Ver. 8 WXP
I have a bar plot with about 100 bars. I would like to put some of the bars in red.
To do that I hold the ctrl key while I double click on the particular bar but no plot details show the data point I am clicking!.
I use to do that in older Origin versions and I think I was sucessful in doing that on vs8 also, but now I cant repeate it.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks julio |

Yes, you are right. To edit a single point, you hold the Ctrl key while double-clicking. (In later versions it has gotten easier as you don't need the Ctrl key.)
Does Plot Details open, but not just for that point?

Hi julio,
I have tried a sample column chart with 100 bars to show the Plot Details for a specific single bar by selecting a plot using with CTRL key (in vers 7.5, 8.0, 8.5), but it worked okay. When a specific bar was selected, the bar only highlights; but if the whole plot was selected, the central dots appear in all bars - then you need to deselect by clicking outside. Since the mouse operation is more sensitive when the number of bars are large, I suggest you to maximize the graph window in the Origin workspace as well as maximize the Origin window itself to help you to select a specific bar.

Thank you for your help Hideo and Laurie.
I have tried in a simpler bar graph with about 10 bars and it works. First ctlr + click selects and open the plots details with the single bar. Then you can customized.
However with a maximized 50 bar graph when I do the same the plot details opens but without the single bar option!!. I have to said that the plot contains both + and - bars with sd and a label for some bars. Could that be the cause? I try to insert a pdf copy.
Thanks, julio

Hi julio,
Please send your Origin file of that PDF image to the OriginLab Tech Support (tech@originlab.com) referring to this forum post so that Tech people can see the exact situation.
Thank you.
