Hi,
Any ideas if there is anything special that one needs to do reverse the direction of a logarithmic axis (i.e. highest value at the left lowest at the right) and get it to display the axis properly?
For non-logarithmic axes I would just reverse the 'from' and 'to' in the axis dialog and set 'from' as the highest value and 'to' as the lowest value. I've done this for logarithmic axes in older versions of Origin and it worked fine but OriginPro 8.5 doesn't seem to like it. Rather than displaying the axis properly with correct tick marks, etc it only has the first (highest) tick label and then no further tick marks or labels. If I play around with custom tick labels I can get it to display the major ticks at each decade but the minor tick marks just refuse to work at all.

Hi Physdragon,

It is a bug newly introduced in Origin 8.1, and it has been again fixed in Origin 8.5.1. We are sorry for the inconvenience you have been experiencing.

To reverse the direction of the x-axis (or indeed any other axis) one can use the labTalk command thus ;

Layer.x.reverse=1

Glad to know it isn't just me doing something stupid.

Thanks for the hint rlewis, setting up the plot the 'normal' way around with the x-axis increasing from right to left then using layer.x.reverse=1 does the trick and gets the minor tick marks in the right place. It does get slightly confusing if you try and edit anything using the dialog box afterwards since 'left' and 'right' have been reversed, but at least it looks correct!
