I found another bug in Origin 5 Patch 2:

  • Open any project
  • then choose File | Save As "Results4Alpha=0.2". The full path to the file appears in the window title.
  • now, just click the save button on the toolbar -- the filename on the window title changes to "Results4Alpha=0" AND Origin creates a new file with this name.
  • As a result U have 2 files, and the recent one is with wrong name. I do not know what will happen if one already has "Results4Alpha=0". Will it be overwritten?

We are aware of this problem as well as a similar one. Long filenames, pathnames and filenames containing certain punctuation marks cause the file name given by the user to be truncated or otherwise corrupted when the file is written to disk. It also is not properly displayed in the File: Project history list. This only occurs in Origin 5.0.

It is possible to accidentally overwrite an Origin file name with a similar beginning but with the last few characters different. However, a warning dialog will come up telling you that the file is about to be overwritten and gives you the chance to rename the project.

Because your file name is so peculiar I do not think this bug will affect most Origin users. This problem has been addressed. Origin version 6 SR2 and above completely alleviates the truncation or corruption of the Origin Project name.
