I work with complex Origin projects that have fairly large numbers of windows (several hundred), although the data files are not large (only a few MB). I have been working in Origin 5.0, and I just upgraded to Origin 6.1. A major reason for the upgrade was the anticipation that the Project Explorer tool would greatly assist in my management of large numbers of windows (in the advertisements, it "provides you with the ability to ... quickly open and navigate through large projects, organize data and graphs for easy access and manipulation").
However, I am having problems. I find that simple window management tasks take enormously longer to execute in version 6.1 than in version 5.0. In version 5.0, these operations were executed in a fraction of a second, but in version 6.1 it can take >20 seconds to execute just one of these operations. These operations include: creating a new window, maximizing a window, minimizing a window, renaming a window, duplicating a window, etc.. I have many scripts which automate these management tasks, and these scripts now run extremely slowly. This slowness does not depend on whether Project Explorer is open or not, but when it is open, the >20 second delay per window operation is associated with one or more slow refreshes of the Project Explorer listing. Long delays are also incurred when all windows are set as 'hidden'. It's now virtually impossible to get any work done. Does anyone have a solution to this problem? If not, I will be forced to uninstall Origin 6.1, and reinstall Origin 5.0.
System: 300 MHz Pentium II, 128 MB RAM.
