OriginPro 9.0.0G (32-bit) SR2, Windows 7:

Hi everyone,

I want to create a 3D plot with transparent walls. In this plot the symbols should be approximated with a fitting curve (exponential, polynomial,...).

How can I create a plot like this?

Thanks for your help,
Thomsen

Hi Thomsen,

Here is one way to do:

1) Organize your data like in the screenshot below. (Z columns indicate the sequence identification.)

2) Run NLFit in multi-Data mode for all columns except Z columns. (In this case, I have used the quadratic function.)

3) Highlight Y columns of the fit data (not the residual results), and choose "Plot: 3D XYY: 3D Walls" menu
to make a 3D Walls plot.

4) Double-click the plot, and choose "Spacing" tab, and set the Width slider to 0.
Also, choose "Pattern" tab, and set the Transparency to, say 50%. Click OK.

5) In the workbook, return to the original data sheet, and highlight the Z columns.
Put the cursor on the right(or left)-most border of the columns (Corsor changes the icon
to a tiny graph shape), and click-and-move onto your graph.
This adds the 3D scatter plot to the graph. Customize the scatter plot like plot as you like.
To add the dropline from a specific point, CTRL+Double-click it to make a "special data point"
to make it individually customizable.

Hi Hideo Fujii,

thanks for your answer. This is a really nice way.
I just have two small problems.

1) The change of the Transparency has no effekt in the diagramm, but I can see the change of the color in the legend. Why is that so?

2) If the Z columns are formatted as text, the 3D scatter plot is at the wrong place. Additionally the axis labels are not correct. How can I avoid this?

How can I solve this problems?

Thanks for your help.

I guess because of your monitor driver for OpenGL rendering. I suggest you to try other machine,
if you can. (I have no problem on my machine.)

Two Z columns are different datasets, so Origin maps them individually to "1". You can reorganize
your worksheet like below, and make a 3D scatter from this extra set of XYZ.
(Note: To show the text tick labels on Z axis, I have changed the long name of the Y columns
in the fit results worksheetto the text, and set the Display Type of tick labels to "Column Headings".)

Hi Hideo Fujii,

thank you so much for your help. This is exactly what I was looking for.

At the moment, I have no other machine available but I think you are right, it must be a problem with the OpenGL driver. I have an old graphic card installed and therfore is no new driver available.

Thanks for your help,
Thomsen
