Origin Ver. and Service Release (Select Help-->About Origin): 8.6.0 Operating System: Windows 7 Enterprise
Hi there,
I've created a simple 2D scatter plot, but instead of using a single colour for the symbol (in that case is a dot), I'm using the option of "colormap". However, I would like the range of colours to appear in the legend (kind of a colour scale). How can I do this? The option "Graph > New color scale" is not active.
Cheers, J. |

Hi, The most possible reason for this to happen is that you might have moved your created color scale to an unknown position. The easiest way to solve this is to delete the old color scale and create a new one so that new color scale will show up at a proper position on the graph.
To do this type "list -o" in the command window which will list all object names within the project. After you found the name of the color scale, type "label -r ObjectName" to remove old color scale. The figure below is an example to show you what the name for color scale would be:

Hi,
I have the same problem. The New Color Scale isn't active and I don't know why. The list -o command gives: list -o; 1 3 3D, 0x02a107e8 2 0 YL, 0x02a10938 3 0 XB, 0x02a10a88 4 3 __BCO2, 0x02a10bd8 5 0 Legend, 0x02a10d28 6 7* _202, 0x02a10e78 7 7 _232, 0x02a10fc8 8 0 Text, 0x02a11118
I use Origin2015

Hi Dandelion,
Have you used color mapping to set the color of data points? Its control is in Symbol Tab: Symbol Color: Color Mapping in Plot Details- Plot Properties dialog.
If there is no colormapping, you should not see the New Color Scale item active on Graph menu. If you have enabled colormapping and if you just deleted it, it will be available again on menu Graph: New Color Scale. Or you have moved somewhere cannot be found, by typing list -o command you should return the item:
SPECTRUM1
But I did not see this item in your list.
Regards!

Hi, Dandelion_74
What you did is just assign each line a different color automatically, there is nothing to map with. Please take a look at the following blog: http://blog.originlab.com/graphing/flatten-waterfall-plot It flattens the waterfall to XZ plane, in your case, should use XY plane instead, and waterfall with Z colormap.
