Dear Origin-Support Team,
After trying several things like the non linear curve fit tool with the built in "find y from x" as well as spline interpolation where you get back a new set of data, I found the Interpolate X or Y.ogw template. This template was exactly what I wanted to do, but I have a problem with it. After importing the X and Y data columns, I type several values into the Y out column, hit find X, and I get values back, but they are totally not on the curve. Find Y from given X data works fine, but the other way round it doesn't. I have put some screenshots into this post, so you can see my problem. Why does it interpolate like a negative linear function? What could I do, to make the template find the correct X values to given Y values and is it possible to find multiple x values for one Y value?

If it is true that your Input X and Y values are monotonically increasing, then the problem is that this tool cannot be used for extrapolation. It is only designed for interpolation. You can only enter X or Y values which are within the input x or y range of values.
If you plot your input XY does it look like a function? Perhaps exponentially increasing? If so, then you should fit the data with an appropriate function and choose the option to generate Find X From Y and Find Y From X tables in the Find X/Y page.

Thank you for your reply. The plot is NOT monotonically increasing. Does it have to be?

X must be sorted either ascending or descending in order for Find Y to work properly. Y must be sorted either ascending or descending in order for Find X to work properly.

Ok, I didn't got this from the video tutorial. Thanks for the information! Maybe you could add this to the tutorial.
