In the ReleaseNotes:New Features and Changes in 8.6 SR0 a new feature is mentioned as

ORG-1344 Auto adjust column width after importing This control is hidden in GUI. After importing data, Origin will auto adjust column width so that user can see the data contents.

I find this feature quite inconvenient. Can one disable it in 8.6 SR2?

Another question - on some versions sorting worksheets is disabled when there are manually or automatically recalculating columns in the worksheet. Sort is still possible though X-function, though. In other versions it is enabled. Is it possible to change this behaviour? I do not see why sorting would be incompatible with recalculations.

I am sorry, but is it possible with 8.6 SR2, the version this feature has been announced for?

Sorry, but no, especially for the second issue.
For the first one, you can run a XF after the import to set column width back (http://www.originlab.com/doc/X-Function/ref/wcolwidth).
