In Origin 2018, the system variable @UNJ should control if a project is saved by default in .OPJ format or the new .OPJU format.
If you try to set the variable to @UNJ=1, you get the log message "@UNJ: unknown system variable, use as is" and it is not working.
Seems to be a bug in 2018 SR0.

Best regards,

Manfred

Hi Manfred,

I am afraid in Origin 2018 SR0, we can not reproduce your question, so I am not sure what leads this question.

Could you try cleanly reinstalling your Origin2018?

Please download Origin 2018 installer from our website
1. Log in OriginLab website
http://www.originlab.com/restricted/Login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2frestricted%2findex.aspx
2. Download the Origin last version installer
https://www.originlab.com/demodownload.aspx

Uninstall the originla one. And then, reinstall your Origin in an empty folder and use a new folder as User File folder.

Thanks
Jacqueline

Hi Jacqueline,

I did a fresh install of Origin 2018 (Build 9.5.0.193).
I set the system variable @UNJ to "1". I confirmed the setting via the script window:

@UNJ=;
@UNJ=1

According to your web page
https://www.originlab.com/doc/LabTalk/ref/sys-var-list
the variable @UNJ

It controls whether to auto save and save the unsaved project by new function (Save as OPJU format)

0= Auto save and saving unsaved project use new function.
1= Revert back. Save the file as OPJ

If I understand this correctly, UNJ=1 should set in the file save dialogue the OPJ format as default, but still the OPJU format is the default.

So, what is this variable really doing?

Best regards,

Manfred

Hi Manfred,

Apologies for the confusion. The sys var you mentioned does not apply to the drop-down. But we understand that would be useful, so we will look into adding a sysvar for that in the next release.

We are looking at releasing 2018b in early April.

This b release will:
1. install separate from 2018
2. will share UFF with 2018
3. will share license with 2018
4. you can uninstall either 2018 or 2018b without affecting the other

When a beta version is available, we will inform you/users so you can test the version before release.

Hi Easwar,

I just saw that the sysvar @UNJ vanished from your list at
https://www.originlab.com/doc/LabTalk/ref/sys-var-list

As you said a sysvar for the default file format would be nice.
I manage about 60 PCs controlling experiments in the students lab of our physics department. If I update the Origin installed on these PCs to 2018, the trouble with the default new .OPJU format is foreseeable.
We have an Origin site lincense including "Student Home Use", and the students are sloppy in upgrading Origin.

Best regards,

Manfred

Hi Manfred,

Yes we removed it from the page, as the var was not useful.

Thank you for your user-story. That is helpful for us to understand the need for a new sysvar to control the default save format.

Best regards,

Easwar
