Is there a way to get a reference line in a graph from metadata in the column header row.

Example: Process Capability Analysis.

would like to save the specification limits in the column header row. These specification limits should be used as reference lines in a histogram.

Hi RiRi,

I want to confirm your request:
1. Do you mean the data of reference lines are stored in column label rows?
2. You want to plot straight reference lines into different histogram, right? Or you have to plot a line with all these data points stored in the column label rows.

To plot a straight lines, you can use this tool:
https://www.originlab.com/doc/X-Function/ref/addline

You can set the cell value in the label row as position.

Thanks,
Shirley

1: yes correct. see example attached. reference line should be at 3.0 and if the value is changed the reference line in the graph should move accordingly
2: should be a straight line based on a value in the column label row

Hi Riri,

Sorry that we don't support this. We created ORG-24566 to support it in the future version.

For now,
one workaround in Origin 2022 is to put such value in data area, e.g. a new column in this worksheet. Or a totally new sheet. U can click the cell and use Ctrl+L to define a name for the cell e.g. call it lower. set scope to Project level.
Then in Reference lines dialog, u can choose expression and enter lower.

Such value will draw as reference line. And when u change the cell value in the future. U can press F5 in graph to referesh it to show new reference line location.

Thanks, Snow

Sorry, no workaround in 2020. Named range is new in Origin 2022.

Thanks, Snow

Hi Riri,

Just FYI, we just announced Origin 2022b release, which include this improvement.

You can defined a named for column label cell and use it when setting reference line expression.
When value changes in worksheet, graph will update.

Please visit Originlab.com/2022b for highlights and how to upgrade.

Best, Snow
