Hello,
I want to use an italic symbol for my axis title, but when exporting the graph in pdf and printing it out, the symbol is printed in bold.
I checked the Pdf file properties and in the font type, it shows a user-defined symbol (type 3). When I export the graph with a non-italic symbol, the file properties shows an included symbol (Type 1).
Can someone help me to solve this issue? I assume, when I change the font to italic, the pdf does not recognize the Font type and just print it out. I also use embedded and True type options but they don't help.

Thank you in advance.

Can you attach your project file here and provide steps that we can test? Thanks.

We tested here in Origin 2020 but couldn't reproduce the issue. The symbol displays properly in the pdf even though it shows as Type 3.

Can you please check:
1. Which pdf viewer do you use? Acrobat reader?
2. Can you export the graph as emf format and see if it displays properly?
3. Can you also choose menu File->Print... and choose to print to PDF using Microsoft Print driver. See if there is also a problem.

Hello James,

Yes, I use Acrobat reader. In the pdf view the symbol displays properly also for me. The problem comes when I print it out on the paper. Then it is printed bold, I assume due to being type 3.
I use my graphs (in pdf) in my Latex document and therefore it should be eventually converted to pdf even if I use emf. i tried for example in eps format, it doesn't work.
I have many graphs in my document next to each other, so when I change even abit the proprerties of the pdf file the consistency between my format is lost.
Is there a way that I can generate the character in type 1? in non-italic format it is already in type 1!
