Operating System: Windows 10
Hello,
I want to draw a log-log scale plot with minor tick labels as 1,2,3 like in the figure below. In Origin, it will give me 0.02, 0.03, 0.05,....

Hi Mai,
To change the minor tick labels please do the following:
-Double click the "X-axis" to bring up the axis dialog box
-Go to "Tick Labels">"Minor Tick Labels" where you will find "Display Format"
-In the "Display Format" field enter: S*1#
+The S displays the numbers in scientific notation
+The *1 denotes 1 significant figure
+The # modifies the label to only display the coefficient

It worked thank you!
I want to have smaller size of minor tick label by putting in Display format
\p50(%.1E)
What is the equivalent for # in this type of notation?

Hi Mai,
\p50(%.0E) does display only the coefficient but I assume you don't want the scientific notation.
Thus, Origin lab does not support changing the size of minor tick labels while preserving the format we discussed previously. I have notified the developers to look into this.
In the meantime, I have come up with a workaround for you.
-In the X-axis dialog window, turn off minor tick labels for the “Bottom” x-axis.
-Check the Show tick box for the Top x-axis and format the minor tick labels with S*1# following the instructions in my previous post.
-In the “Display” tab to the left of “Minor Tick Labels”
+Change Type to Numeric, Format to Custom and type “S” in the Custom Format field
-Under the Lines and Ticks tab, enter “-100” into Percent/Value found in the Line section.

Hi Chao,
Thanks for the idea but this workaround removes the top axis of my graph.
For now, I choose to display minor tick labels in specified indices and format S*1#.
Let me know if you have another idea to try.

Hi Mai,
You can add a new layer and link the x-axis 1:1 so that it has the same range as your original plot. You can turn on the top minor tick label for that layer.
