OriginPro 2022b (64-bit) SR1 9.9.5.167 Windows 10 Pro x64
Greetings!
I have a column of categorical data:

How do I make a pie chart of the data?
Thank you.

You will have to select Statistics: Descriptive Statistics: Discrete Frequency and then plot pie from the result sheet.
Thanks, Snow |

Dear Snow,
Great suggestion! How do I disable adding column letter + "''" to the results of Statistics: Descriptive Statistics: Discrete Frequency? See the following screenshot:

Hi Andrey,
What would you like to show? Short name or long name?
I am not sure yet if there is a way.
BTW, u can add a new column and enter 1 as F(x) so each row is filled with 1. Then highlight that column and plot Pie chart directly.
Thanks, Snow |

Related question: is there a way to automatically create the wedge labels such that counts are located outside the webge, but categories are inside?

Few related questions.
Is there a way to automatically create the wedge labels such that counts are located outside the webge, but categories are inside?
How do I set semitransparent background for the wedge labels to make them visible on top of the wedges themselves?
Thank you.

Right now multiple labels e.g. counts + categories will show together. U can plot the same data twice in same graph. For one plot, on Labels tab of PD, set the label to be Counts and set Position to be Associate with Wedge. Outside End. And to the 2nd plot, set the label to be Categories and set Position to be Associated with Wedge, Center.
Wedge label is on top of wedge. So I don't fully understand what you meant by "semitransparent background for the wedge labels"

How do I set semitransparent background for the wedge labels to make them visible on top of the wedges themselves? When label is inside wedge. If u set label color to auto, it will auto decide the label color. E.g. for darker wedge, the label will be white.
Thank you. Snow

This works fine with a single label. How do I apply the settings to all the labels at once?

Hi Andrey, In Snow's screenshot, you can see she set apply to plot in left-bottom of dialog. Then it will apply to all labels for same plot.
I just want to let you know, with a categorical X column, you just need to add one Y column with all value to be 1(set f(x) to be 1), then plot this XY as Pie.
Thanks Cecilia |

Unfortunately we put them together. E.g. in Plot Details, go to Labels tab, check Value to and percentages so both show. Or u can check Custom to change the display, e.g. not using () around percentage, etc.
They will show together.
One workaround is plot the same plot again. For 1st plot, set label to show Counts with Position set to Outside End in Plot Details. For 2nd plot, set label to show Percentage and Position: Center.
Thanks, Snow
