Origin Version (Select Help-->About Origin): 8.0
Operating System: Linux via vmware (would really like a native version!)

Hi everyone,

I'm having a lot of problems exporting some graphs in eps or pdf without running into font problems. For some reason, it looks like the fonts are not being embedded into the exported file. How do I do this? I never had any problems with previous versions of origin.

The problem probably lies with the "image settings" in the import and export dialog box. Unfortunately, the help file is extremely unhelpful about the image settings because all it says is:

"Set the image (the image file to be exported) properties. This differs according to the selection of Image Type. For detailed settings, you may need some knowledge on that type. Normally using the default values is sufficient to export the graph if you are not familiar with the settings."

Can anyone tell me which settings to use so that all fonts are embedded into the file? Thanks!

For example, under the "postscript" heading I have the following options that I don't understand:

-postscript level
-data format
-handling

Under the "font" heading:

-Adobe type (1,3,42)
-Use substitution, built-in, outline (what's the difference)?
-should "always use true-type" be checked?
-vector thickness? I just want it the same as the figure in origin!

Hi,

To avoid font problems, please use Outline for both PDF and EPS.

For PDF, there is a bug that will be fixed in our next service release, but in the meantime please follow these steps:

1. Export to pdf using Outline.
2. Go to your User Files Folder. To locate the folder, you can do the following:
  • Open the Script Window by selecting Window:Script Window.

  • Type the following: %Y=

  • Press Enter.

3. In Windows Explorer, browse to your User Files Folder.
4. Open, using Notepad, the file opdf.ini.
5. Rename the section [Font] to [Fonts].
6. Save the ini file.
7. Go back to Origin 8 and export again.

Your feedback on the Help file has been forwarded to our documentation team. Thank you.

The Opdf.ini file gets created the first time that you export to pdf, so I think you forgot step 1.

You will not need to edit this file though, if you get our latest service release. Please select Help:Check for Updates... to get the latest patch, SR4.
