Origin Ver. and Service Release (Select Help-->About Origin): 7 and 8
Operating System: XP

Hello,

I have a special problem. I want to know if it is possible to change the format of the scientific notation of numbers. Especially in coordinates.
Instead of: 4,6x10
I would like to have: 4,610
as axis values. Is this possible in any way?

Thanks.
David

Hi Daveman,

Sorry, I can't understand you well for the unreadable code in your post.

Please see the online help page about the Scientific and Engineering notation: http://www.originlab.com/www/helponline/Origin8/en/graphing/axis_scale_tick_labels.htm#Decimal

Hope this is useful. Any problem from you is welcome.

Thanks,
Shirley

I do not know of unreadable code in my post. I can read it without problems...

Ok, I try to explain what I have written probably unreadable.
In scientific notation, Origin (at least the german version) displays for example 1.1E15 not with the 'E' but with a '1.1x10^15' with the 15 in superscript. But in Germany the 'x' is not usually used. There a middle dot (not at the bottom) is used (Ascii 183). So I want to replace the 'x' with this middle dot. Is this possible? On the help page there is nothing explained like that (as much as i understood it).
Has my problem become clear?

Thank you for your help.
David

Hi Daveman,

Sorry, you can't set the scientific notation as your description in Origin 7 or 8 currently. The workaround is to remove the original tick label and add the corresponding text object mannully one by one, or add a text column to be applied as tick label.

Thanks,
Shirley

Thank you for your answer.
It's a pity.
At least I know that this is not possible the way I would like to do it and do no longer search for a way to do so.

Thanks,
David

Please note that option to use a middle dot scientific notation will be possible in the upcoming Origin 2016.
