Origin Ver. and Service Release (Select Help-->About Origin): 8.1 Operating System:Windows XP
So, I have a matrix of heights of an uneven surface that has been used to model it. What I'm trying to figure out is how to calculate a tangent plane to the surface that doesn't intersect any of the surface.
For example, say I was to put this uneven surface on a flat table. What I'm trying to find is the equation for the plane of the table that touches the higher points on the surface.
I've already considered just finding the plane by picking out the three highest points on the surface and making the plane out of that, but that plane could intersect other lower points on the surface as the plane extends out to the edges.
I feel like there should be some algorithm or something out there that I can plug into Origin to calculate this plane, but I haven't been able to find anything.
Thanks. |
