Origin Pro8.5 0G Sr1, Windows XP
Whenever I use a color contour plot with Origin version 8.1 or higher,
a black line shows up surrounding my data. The line also shows up when I load data saved under Origin 8.0. How do I get rid of it?
When I change certain values in the matrix the line suddenly disappears but I dont understand, since there is no pattern to when this happens. Any idea?

Hi,

For color-contour plots in rectangular coordinates, what you are seeing are external contour lines themselves. You can turn off all contour lines, and thus eliminate this "border," from Plot Details, Colormap/Contours->Line ...->Show Lines->Hide All. This will turn off interior contour lines as well (not sure if that's desired), but keep the color.

In the case of a polar contour plot, the black line around the outside of the plot is actually the azimuthal axis. You can turn that off as well from the Axis dialog (double-click any axis)->Title&Format-> Selection: Top -> uncheck the "Show Axis & Ticks" box -> OK.

Hope this helps. If you are still unable to do what you'd like, send us your OPJ (tech@originlab.com), and describe the changes you need.

Try Apply a different color to all the contour lines and see if the black line also change color, so you will know if it is just another contour line.

Also, please show the image so we can see exactly what you mean. In addition, please provide the following details.

1. Is your data in worksheet as XYZ or as matrix
2. If XYZ, then is the boundary set to use Data or Layer boundary?

Hello, the contour plot which showed the black line, was plotted from a matrix which contained "blank" spaces.
As I was told the black line seems to be a bug, because the handling of the "blank" spaces is treated different from version 8.1 onwards. Thanks for your help.
