Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows how I can create a journal quality kaplan-meier survival curve using origin. Thanks!

I am using OrginLab 8.5. I found this link online, but for some reason there is no option to pick survival statistics under the statistics tab. Do I have to add-on some features?

Hi YP,

The Survival Analysis is a feature only found in OriginPro version. I suspect you are using (regular) Origin version. Check your version by choosing "Help: About Origin" menu. If it doesn't say "Pro", it's a regular version.

Thanks. I now have the pro version, but I still have issues running the kaplan-meier dialog box. I can't even seem to replicate the examples that they have shown in the documentation. I just get an output of all zeros. Where do I indicate whether a subject survived? Where do I include the subjects whose data wasn't recorded until the end of the study? I guess I have several questions, but the documentation is not nearly as thorough as I thought it would be. If you have any input, please help!

Thanks,
YP

Hi YP,

Have you tried the following tutorial for Survival Analysis in Origin
help ("Help: Origin" menu)? :

  User Guide> Statistics> Survival Analysis>
     Kaplan-Meier Estimator > Examples (kaplanmeier)

If not, you can try this one first.

Hi YP,

In Example1, it says:
> Open the Origin sample project file Kaplan-Meier.dat located in the Origin \Samples \Statistics subfolder.

Here, you need to import the ascii data file ("File: Import: Single Ascii" menu). Did do do so? If so, please elaborate your failed situation. I cannot guess.

I actually followed the survivedRats.dat example step-by-step as it was shown in the video tutorial. However, right after I finish entering the info and hit ok, I get an error saying

"kaplanmeier:X-Function failed to execute!
Unknown error; function return error code: -11"

With their simple example, I just got zeros for my results as I previously mentioned

Hello YP,

So did you first install a Origin regular version and later modified it to OriginPro? I am just wondering if there is something broken when you modify it to OriginPro.

Also, could you check Help: About Origin and let us know the Origin version number there since we couldn't reproduce the problem so far.

Thanks, Snow

Hi YP and chullos,

Could you please try the following to see if the problem can go away, or not. It seems your kaplanmeier x-function is not properly running:

1) Please copy-and-paste the following three commands to the Script window, highlight all three lines, then press ENTER key:

system.path.appdata$=;
system.path.ini$=;
system.path.program$=;

This operation returns paths: place to save the compiled code, user files folder(UFF),and the Origin program directory.

2) Close Origin, navigate to these directories, and find and delete subfolders called "OCTemp" (if you find. But you many not find, and then don't mind.). Restart Origin. At opening, x-functions start to be recompiled. Please check if the problem still continues, or not.

Thank you.
