Hi there,

i have a little problem concerning some graphs i want to make.
I have a lot of similar graphs displaying a density distribution of particles. The Legend shows the percentages of density within a certain ranges. In order to achieve a uniform apparel of all these graphs i want to copy the Legend-style/format and position and use it in each single graph.
Is there any chance to do this without having to change the legend of each graph by hand?

Best regards,
Tobias

Hi Heckisack,

I suggest you to save and reuse the graph template from a sample graph. It remembers not only the format, but also the position, label literals, and customization notations (e.g. "\l(1) %(1,@LG)") of the legend.

Once you saved a template, you can make a new plot from a Template Library.

Hi Hideo,

thank you for your help.
I have now created a template from my sample graph. When i use this template and add the data i want to plot i get my deired graph, but the legend is still not right.
It shows the correct format (e.g from 33 to 69 with the correct subdivision) but the size and the position of the legend is not like in the sample graph. Everything else is just the way i wanted it to be...

Tobias

EDIT:
I have to correct myself:

I have tried two different ways:

The original data is a 12 by 12 matrix. From this matrix i did a graph, which is the original for all the others i want to create. The x-axis plots the matrix from 1 to 12, the y axis from 12 to 1.

Way1: Save the graph as a template. Then open the template and put in the data from another matrix.
This gives me a graph with a) the right colours, position and size of the legend b) the right orientation of the axis (1-12 resp. 12-1) but c) wrong subdivisions of the legend

Way 2: Save the design of the graph as system design. Load the new matrix and create a new graph with the system design. This gives me a graph with a) right colours and subdivisions of the legend, b) right orientation of the axis but c) wrong position and size of the legend.

Does anyone have a clue how to avoid the c)s of one of the two ways?

Hi Tobias,

Yes, Way1 is the way for the templates. In Way2, what you called "system design" is the application of System Theme in the original English term. They are completely different mechanisms, and maybe it's a good time to be aware of the difference between templates and themes.

Templates are static for whole graph structure, and are applied before making the plot. On the other hand, themes are dynamic for the individual plot/graph element, and can/must be applied after making the graph. The saved contents in a template can be described at:

http://www.originlab.com/www/helponline/Origin/en/UserGuide/What_is_Saved_with_the_Graph_Template.html

Regarding what you called "wrong subdivisions of the legend", I'm not sure what meant. Maybe you can paste the screenshot here with the indication of the issue?
