Hi there,
first of all, I'm quite new to Origin, but I already googled my problem and didn't find an answer (or reason). Also, I use the german version of Origin, so I might not always use the exact correct name of a menu/window/function. I'm sorry for that.
So, here's the thing:
I have electrophysological recording data, each recording has 16,000 data points (time vs. current). I want to import these (which works), in some cases apply a fit or baseline subtraction (which I know how to do), and finally export that to a format which I can open in a vector graphics software (CorelDraw or Illustrator). I usually choose .eps or .emf. However, I later on need to be able to select individual data points in the graphics software, for example to trim the ends of the trace or remove artifacts. And that's the problem: I am not able to export my files in such a way. When I import it in either CD or AI, after ungrouping everything all I get are 10 "blocks" of data points. The trace still looks fine in its entirety, but I can only select a huge number of data points at once. I have tried disabling speed-mode wherever it is possible (layer menu, exporting options and everything else you find when you google "origin number of data points export graph").
Is there still some hidden checkbox I couldn't find? Or is there a limit when it comes to the number of data points when exporting to .eps (or any other choosable file type)?
To help you understand my problem, I've added screenshots.
Hope you can help me, Jan

Hello,
I looked into this and it seems like Origin is exporting all of the data correctly, but it is becoming grouped like you described when CorelDraw tries to import it.
However, you can do a lot of graph manipulation within Origin. You can trim data by selecting the range of data you want to keep with the "Selection on Active Plot" button (it looks like a blue oval with a downward arrow above it), and then by going to Data > Set Display Range. This Data menu also has options that enable you to mask or move certain data points.
Please let me know if there is any other type of graph or data manipulation you typically use Corel for.

Hi Matthew,
thank you for your quick response. I know about the multitude of possibilites I have with Origin. But when I make figures (especially when there are multiple panels) for a publication or presentation, it often happens that there are for example several traces with different lengths, or that one has to align traces nicely. I am kind of a Monk when it comes to making figures and the editing possibilities in Corel or AI have so far been very useful. However, when you say it's not an Origin issue, I'll see whether I can alter something in CD or AI.
Thanks! Jan |
