Origin Ver. and Service Release (Select Help-->About Origin): 2018 SR1
Operating System: Windows 10 on Parallels 13

Hi guys,

A quick question about plotting empty pixels in image plots. Is there a convenient way to plot these pixels in a specific background color, such as white? Currently the only way I found was to manually change one end of the color palette where I also risk of coloring a couple of pixels that actually contain information. Obviously I could assign the empty pixels an arbitrary high or low value and leave it outside the color range, but this doesn't really feel convenient.

Couple of screen grabs to show my problem;
- First the empty pixels are shown as the extreme of the color palette in the image
- After I've changed the extreme color to white the empties are white but I risk changing a couple of relevant pixels

Thanks in advance!

BR
Mikko

Hi Mikko,

The Heat Map plot (which is what you showed, I believe) doesn't have the missing value control by some reason,
though the regular Contour plot has. To convert your heat map to a contour, could you please try the following?

1) Right-click on your heat map, and select "Copy Format" fly-out.
2) Make a Color-fill contour plot from your matrix.
3) Right-click on this contour, and select "Paste Format to> All" flyout.
==> Now the "Colormap/Contours" tab in the Plot Details dialog of the contour plot has the Missing Values control
for its color.

Hope this works.

Hi Hideo,

Thanks for your reply. However, I'm using the image plot, not heat map, based on a matrix imported as hierarchical structure.

Hi Mikko,

Ah, sorry for my misunderstanding. I think you can still apply the almost the same procedure for the contour plot like:

1) Right-click on your image plot, and select "Copy Format" fly-out.
2) Make a Color-fill contour plot from your matrix.
3) Right-click on this contour, and select "Paste Format to> All" flyout.
4) Double-click the plot to open the Plot Details dialog, and choose Colormap/Contours tab.
Press the Pencil button at the Line header, and set the Show Lines to "Hide All".
5) Double-click a Y axis to open the Y Axis dialog, and in the Scale tab, switch the values of
From and To to make the image upside down.
==> Now the "Colormap/Contours" tab in the Plot Details dialog of the contour plot has the Missing Values control
for its color.

Does it work this time?

Hi Hideo,

Thanks again for your time, but I don't really see the point on plotting images as contour plots or heat maps as I am working specifically with image analysis. The plots you mentioned don't seem to initially plot the pixels as squares or have a quick option for choosing a specific number of color levels.
