Origin Ver. and Service Release (Select Help-->About Origin): 6.0
Operating System: Windows Vista

Hi,

I'm trying to fit a Gaussian curve to a set of data points. The Fit Gaussian function in Origin 6 seems to get confused by one of the points and won't give a correct fit [see below]. Does anyone have any advice on how to get a correct fit?

Thanks!

Hi,

The built-in parameter initialization code is obviously failing on your dataset, it finds a positive peak at around 42. What you can do is to set xc to around 130, and A to be a negative number and the press the chi-sqr button and then do iterations to start from there. It may be helpful to initially fix xc and A so they do not vary and then once the fitter catches up then allow them to vary.

You can try the Origin 8 version by download the demo, the initialization code in 8.0 may work better with that data.
